Letter to Biden from 54 Senators about Turkey

In the letter signed by 54 out of 100 senators in total, Joe Biden was asked to pressure Turkey on protecting human rights.

The letter said, “We ask you to emphasize that President Erdogan and his government must end the crackdown on dissent at home and abroad, release political prisoners and those imprisoned for freedom of expression, and abandon their authoritarian course”.

The letter also “expects Biden ‘to take a tougher stance on human rights issues towards Turkey’”.

Meanwhile, it is known that some high-ranking officials in the new US “administration, including Biden, have used critical expressions towards Turkey”.
